GUITAR
So. Its my birthday in october and ive already started looking at what i want. typical teenager huh? For my birthday i want a guitar, since my electric i have now is...shit. ive played for 2 years and play primarily metal, so this guitar will be used for Drop b - F standard. My Price Range is up to £300, maybe £10 over at a push. I need to know 1. what gauge of strings to get so im not playing guitar with elastic bands and 2. what guitar to get. ive been looking at the following

http://www.andertons.co.uk/solid-body-electric-guitars/pid18615/cid671/chapman-ml1-guitar.asp
There are still some b stock on ml1s left for like £180 so i could buy some new pickups iif i bought it
Id like to know if there is any other good guitars for that price range without a FR and thats not a 7 string. i may settle for a 7 string if its a good deal.

AMP
Next dillema haha. i have been looking at amps since im not happy with my like 6 spider iv 30's compatibility with pedals, and its non bonecrushing distortion. i have a boss me 50 but id like an amp with good tones for up to £300. ive looked at the Roland cube xl series, and the vox valvetronix + series and both look good, but im not sure. are there any better and if so which. i dont want alot of watts as there are no need for over 30. but if its a good amp i wouldnt mind. thanks.

AND NO. I WILL NOT SAVE UP, I AM IN NEED OF NEW GEAR

i would recommend a JCA2112RC or head/cab rig. you will need it to get mic'd for gigs, you have to get used to playing with yout volume tone control, and mostly it will work outwell.

Yes. It depends on what you mean by 'heavy' I'm pretty sure the Jet City's can do up to 80's metal by themselves, if you want heavier than that you'll have to invest in a pedal of sorts. It sounds like you were already planning on using pedals though since you were complaining about your Spider's compatibility with pedals.

As for guitar string gauge, that wont really matter but depends on what tunings you plan on playing in. So what tunings do you play on/want to play on?

put an OD up front (i like my bbe green screamer, realltively cheap but yet gets the job done), and it will get quite enough gain used for just about everything i can think of.
keep in mind that i am not like talking about "grindcore" or whatever they call it, but the more popluar metal.

It's clear you don't understand the pedigree of this amp. So I'll try to fill you in on what Jet City Amplification (JCA)and the JCA20H is about.

The entire JCA line was designed by Mike Soldano. I'm pretty sure that means nothing to you at this point?

The flag ship of Soldano Custom Amplification is the Super Lead Overdrive (SLO) this is a high gain boutique amp that cost about $3500 US and are hand made in Seattle Washington. Worth every penny if you can afford one...

That's who Soldano is and the company that bears his name.

Soldano for very good reasons I might add. Didn't want to market imported mass produced amps under the Soldano brand.

This is how we the lucky consumers ended up with JCA and some of the most awesome amps for the money on the market.

JCA12S Half-Stack is the best amp for the money bar when it comes to crunch sound. For ultra heavy modern metal just stick a overdrive pedal in from of it. A TS9 or Bad Monkey would do nicely...
