So i just aquired a les paul standard. It has the 'key stone' tuners, and they dont feel very sturdy (I'll turn then half a turn before they adjust the pitch)

Is there any way i can adjust them? Or should i look into replacing them?

I thought a big ratio was a good thing?

you can replace the tuners if you want, but i don't think the ratios themselves are individually adjustable.

It's not that, it's like i turn it half a turn and it does nothing, like there's no contact, then tunes normally after that. Very odd :/

Helpful i'm sure... haha would a set of klusons / grovers be any better? Also, would they be the same fitting? a hole above and below each tuner.

So if you just acquired it, take it to a local luthier to let him say "these can be adjusted" or "these are really bad"? I would find that big ratio so annoying..

It seems the problem lies within the nut and not the tuners themselves. The strings are getting binded at the nut, so initially the tuners don't affect the tuning until enough tension is created to overcome the static friction between the nut and string. Look into some type of nut lubricant or simply rubbing graphite into the slots.

No problem, and if that doesn't help, I sometimes take old strings and run them through their respective slots to sort of file the slots smooth.

I have these on my studio with a bigsby. They work fine. Just make sure to bend the strings at a 90 degree angle when threading them through the tuner.

Will do!

Was just wondering, are the Genuine 'Kluson' tuners better than the 'gibson deluxe' Lookalikes?

I've done all the pointers you guys gave, and it's holding tune better, but there's still a bit og play in them.

I'm pretty sure that the Gibsons are just rebranded Kluson tuners. I know the metal Keysone tuners are just Grovers that are rebranded to say Gibson.

^A counterfeit? Damn... Hope you didn't blow a lot of cash on it. How did you get it? Perhaps you can go to the authorities...

I traded it for another guitar. But i managed to get my old guitar back!

I found it on gumtree, and after i found it was fake, the dude stopped answering my calls & Emails. So a few days later i saw my old guitar advertised on gumtree, So i emailed the guy from a different email address and offered to 'buy' the guitar, and he agreed! So i turned up to meet him with a few mates & the fake guitar, and swapped back.
Safe to say he wasn't pleased & Didn't expect it haha

I'd just replace the tuners, I highly doubt it's binding that badly at the nut for you to be able to turn it half way and nothing happen.

AllParts makes some decent tuners that are cheap, not the best but are very reliable.

Dude, i don't have the guitar anymore now
