First of all, I'm not a frequent user of the forums, so don't rage at me if I'm in thee wrong place.

I have a performance night coming up near the end of the term (about 10 weeks away, maybe 7... No idea yet) and I have to play a song for the Performance task in Yr 12. This means I have to learn a song that is complicated enough to get me a good mark and show that I'm good at playing, but I don't want it to be a pain in the arse to play.

Here is my dilema:
I'm performing it with my band who basically only plays Pop-punk and/or skater punk (e.g. Green day, Blink-182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte). Most songs from those genres are repetetive as hell with few exceptions.

I need an idea for a song. I've been trying Carousel, which would be perfect, but it's a bitch to play on my bass (that 7th fret to 15th fret 8th note slide that is basically every third bar hurts my fingers like hell).

So UG, what punk song would you suggest that isn't super repetitive (Longview is my example of repetitive) and that an Intermediate bass player (been playing for over 4 years now)?

TL;DR: what punk song should I play at performance night that will impress the marker but not be hard to play?

IMO Longview would be an excellent song to play, it's not exactly repetitive?

I play "pop punk". There are PLENTY of amazing bassists that are anything BUT repetative...

There's the obligatory Matt Freeman (Rancid/Operation Ivy), but look up stuff by:

For Green Day... look ESPECIALLY at stuff from the album, Insomniac. I feel that that album is Mike Dirnt's best.

Haha, +1 to Less Than Jake!! We played with them last year... i'm all Mr. XdrugfreeX, but the rest of my band isn't and neither is less than lake... after a few hours of smoking not-cigarettes with LTJ, my guitarist convinced them to play the ENTIRE 'Loosing Streak' album for their set... and they did... and it was awesome... and i felt like it was 1997 all over again.

Good luck with the performance!

Yep these, and the first post is a gold mine too. Reel Big Fish can be a little tricky to play and Less Than Jake seems perfect.
