TL;DR skip to question 2. First one to answer question 1 gets a warm fuzzy feeling of gratititude and maybe one free internet coupon

pretty self explanatory.. Went in the shed to find some pliers to restring my guitar and found a music box instead(only the mechanism though)

It's about 30 years old and still works. To hear, see link below. If that doesn't work, scudoodle onto my MP3 section manually.

Simple questions

1) What's the song? It sounds like Mozart but I've been sifting through his songs and concertos but have found nothing.

2) I'm thinking of maybe building a music Box at some point when I have more time, money, materials and patience. Anyone want to suggest a theme for the outside? Anyone ever built one? Tips? Ideas? Should I just give up, hurl it at a chav and pedal away?
There's a good chance that what I've written above is useless and if you take any of the advice it's your own fault.

Clean it up and crank dat shit. As for the box, any wooden box with a lid will do. I'm guessing that rod that sticks out the top gets pressed down by the lid so that it doesn't play when closed.

Make one with a steampunk theme. It would look amazing.
Make it look really aged and make the tune it plays something very contemporary.

I can't believe I didn't think of that. That would be incredible!

EDIT: Above post, you are correct.

My grandmother used to have a music box that played that tune. I wish I knew what it was though.

that song played during the Smart Arty sketches in that tv show from ages ago called ZZZap: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZZZap!
That's where I remember it from, but I don't think it originated there.

EDIT: Just looked it up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Zzzap!_characters#Smart_Arty_.281993-1998.29

his sketches were accompanied by the music of Boccherini's Menuet and Trio, from his String Quartet in E.
