i recently got a tank 49cc scooter that i take to work, since it's only a couple miles away. it will always start right away when i take it out of my shed, but when i get out of work and it's been sitting outside 9 times out of 10 the engine won't turn over. sometimes you can smell gas when i try to start it, other times i can't. my only thought is that it might be vapor blockage further down the fuel line, but i'm not sure. any thoughts?

As a none mechanic and someone who approaches this with logic alone;

have you tried investigated said fuel line for a blockage?

Clean the spark plug? Or maybe if it's wet, the HT leads short out. That happened with my bike in winter.

I'd get it serviced though.

If its carbed, then take the carb off and clean it.

If its EFI, (which I highly doubt), then buy some injector cleaner. Put it in the fuel tank and drive it around for a bit.

If its not turning over at all, could be a bad starter solenoid.

Can you kickstart the moped?

You said you smell gas sometimes when you start it. Is there an automatic or manual choke? You could have the choke on too much, causing the engine to flood, which would also cause it to not start.
