Or perhaps most beautiful songs by metal bands.

As metal is usually viewed as being loud and obnoxious by those not into it, what songs do people reckon are the most haunting and beautiful? I can see doom getting a few posts...

I'll go with My Dying Bride - Sear Me MCMXCIII. The brass in that song just rounds it off.

Funeralopolis by Electric Wizard always gives me a raging hard-on if that counts for anything.

Did you just even pay any respect to Pantera's Planet Caravan cover?

Opeth have some great melodic songs. Like Burden, Hope Leaves, Harvest, Coil and more...

I dont like these list threads, but I suppose Id have to say Ved Buens Ende - Autumn Leaves.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

0-0-0-13-0-0-0-0-13 or something like that alalalala but It;s so heavy and off time and awesome and you could not f**k anyone to it.

Alcest - Percées De Lumière

A lot of Alcest's later stuff sounds very nice.

I'd say that entire album really, beautiful and tragic; isolation and nature

Definitely agreed, though that song affects me more than the others. Oh how I LOVE going to sleep to Fen and a slew of other atmospheric/nature-inspired BM bands..

The first track on Hardangervidda probably is my favourite. Otherwise, I'd have to go with something like this:

Crimson Glory - Painted Skies

It's really beautifully sung.

Körkarlen - Amenti Corridors I

Perhaps it has more to do with the story behind this album that makes this sad. Probably the best example of expression of death I can think of.

Lifelover - Twitch

Lifelover - En Sang Om Dig

Lifelover - Herrens Hand

Lifelover - Stangt p.g.a. Semester

Lifelover make a lot of pretty music.

and of course...

Peste Noire - Laus Tibi Domine

In Flames - December Flower

Anything off Hliðskjálf, Tomhet and Rundgang is definitely true, though his others are a bit too hit and miss for me.
