Hi guys, recently found one of these Quad Pre amps lying around for a fairly decent price. Was wondering what you guys think of it?? I've got two recto's and a JCA20H atm so im wondering what kind of options this preamp would give me?? I havent got a power amp but isn't there something like you can run it through the FX loop of another amp and bypass the preamp section??

also it is just the preamp, so would i need to get anything else to access all the other features like the Graphic EQ and channel switching??

cheers

is nice i think. based on a mark series type thing?

good prices on those old mesa preamps.

grab that and a tri-axis.

rock out.

no wait grab the quad and the formula preamp.

that would rock.

the quads are really nicely built too.

well he's looking at £400ish for it which doesn't sound too bad really, but if i need a load of other stuff for it to be any decent then theres not much point i dont think

naw you don't need anything else except a power amp...

and you can plug into your rectos fx loop/direct in.

all the futures of the pre amp are part of the preamp.

Besides whatever footswitching you might need you can just run it into your effects in on another amp.
The M/B Studio Pre has an effects loop actually in the preamp (which can switch between line and low level), an out for poweramp and an out for recording, so one way or another I can hook it up, supposing the Quad has the same outs.

Its really down to the tones, the Studio is very Mark IIC, I'm pretty sure the Quad has more gain on tap and would be more suited to metal, which the Studio is more than capable of, just don't scoop your mids bro and keep the bass down, it takes a while to dial it nicely and it has its own ways it likes to be dialed compared to other amps.

sweet, but how do you swap channels and stuff?? didn't look like there were any switches on the front or back of it to change from Channel 1 to channel 2

No idea man, there would definately be a way to do it without a footswitch.
On the Studio you've got a rhythm/lead switch underneath the knobs, but this is like 2 of them in one haha
