Hey guys,

Quick question here, I have a guitar with one pickup and one knob, very simple.

However the knob is actually a TONE knob not a volume, and not being able to mute the guitar is pretty frustrating.

In a few weeks I'll be rewiring the guitar, replacing the pup and putting in a volume knob.

TL;DR Question
Is there any way I can create some kind of killswitch (no matter how amateur) from household items? (no spare pots, no soldering iron)

I was thinking take out the tone knob, bring the wires through the pot hole and making a way of connecting and disconnecting them.

Thanks for any help, this isnt a permanent fix just need something quickly,
Cheers, Max.

The highest range Planet Waves Cable actually has a killswitch built in.

Why not just re wire the tone knob into a volume knob?

I've seen them cables before, not what im after, besides no point buying a cable when i can just buy a new pot and soldering iron.

And I wasnt aware you could re-wire a tone pot into a volume pot, arent they different types of pots completely? If not then let me know how to

Just go to RadioShack and get a DPDT or SPDT switch (Better: Momentary Switch)? And the soldering iron would cost you 15 bucks.
Where's Waldo?

depending on the value of the pot, it would be easy to rewire as a volume pot. having two volume knobs would be kinda pointless for one pickup unles you have a way to switch between them. a momentary switch would be best, altho radio shack stuff can be crappy. i had a switch fail on me. their soldering irons are also not the best from what ive heard. i use a solomon soldering iron and it works great and was like 10$ or something.

Thanks guys, ill try re-wiring it now, I thought it required a different type of pot.

Soon I'll be replacing it all anyway, I just required a quick fix
