okay i realize that sometimes when i pick. the pick just slides across the strings instead of picking the string. is it because I'm holding the pick at the wrong angle? or is it the pick itself?

Another problem i have is when i do a legato, my pick always get caught up on the string and "pulls" the string instead of picking it.

Picking properly comes naturally to some people; others (like myself) have to really work at it. I've found that practicing very slowly and using the smallest back and forth motions possible--and picking 'through' the string has helped considerably. It's like your hand pretends the string isn't there and presses through it.

try using a pick with a lot of bevel. you may be extending the pick to far in, try using just the point or even using the rounded portion.

i used the rounded portion and that causes the "slide" through the string
