So, I play a mix of classic and hard rock with a little of heavy metal and progressive. So I finally saved up enough money to buy a new guitar, and since I already have a semi-hollow for classic and a les paul for the hard rock...I want one guitar exclusively for heavy metal (of course I want something versatile but the main priority is metal). So I am looking at Ibanez, ESP, and Jacksons. I am not used to metal guitars (well I am Gibson/Fender guy), I really liked the Ibanez's sound and all, but I just don't like the shape, I want something with a metal design, like a Jackson Warrior, Rhoads, or a Kelly. A design that really catches the audience's attention but has an excellent sound...suggestions?

Recommend me two guitars, one under 450 dollars, and another one under 800. I don't shred but play fast, and the metal I enjoy is early doom metal, thrash metal, and the classic heavy metal (Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, etc). Thanks and sorry for the grammar mistakes, as English is not my native language.

A used Jackson soloist@$800, they are great guitars and come in many p/u configurations (H, H/H, H/S/H, H/S/S).

For LTD look at the M and MH series they are very nice guitars. Go used on these also, because you'll get more for your $$.

I love ESP/LTD eclipses. You can get them with or with EMGs, so you have a choice. One of my favorite guitars
I'll pretend I can mod your amp but break it instead.

Hmm I think I played that guitar before, it did have a great sound indeed, but the shape looks too much like my les paul, I want something more...(for a lack of a better word) exotic. Sound quality is the most important thing on a guitar, but I wouldn't buy a guitar I didn't find cool in appearance.

Get an LTD Viper. Those look goofing when they are laying around, but bad ass when standing up and playing.
What?! There's a clean channel on my amp?!

ibanez xiphos or iceman, jackson warrior or rr or kelly , esp ex, f , ax series. all Rad shapes all have good pickups (emgs, dimarzios or SDs)

+1 To Soloist and Eclipse

are you willing to go used? sometimes you could snatch a gem for a miserably low price

If you like doom metal, i would suggest either a baritone or a 7-string, since low tunings are no stranger to that style

some stuff from ebay

Then look at the LTD Alexi 600, and Jackson RR models. LTD makes a nice EX guitar.

And you will not find a trem on any of the guitars that is not FR or LFR, except the really cheap models. So you may want to look at the Hardtail models.( I don't like FR trems ether)

stop recommending this guy superstrats - he said he'd rather not have a conservative shape. As much as i love superstrats-that's all i own - but this dude wants a visually interesting guitar.

Oh yeah, I am planning to getting it used or on ebay. 7 strings are an option but I am old-school doom metal, like early Sabbath and Pentagram, and the 7 strings might interrupt when I play classic heavy metal and thrash...I am very old school. But thanks anyways, I will look at those guitars!

Thank you, that's exactly what I want, if I were to get a superstrat, it would be an Ibanez for sure.

yh i only have ibanez RG models and Fender Strats. I think rhoads shaped Vs are comfortable to play, Jackson rr5 and rr3 models impressed me when i was trying out more extreme shapes. The ibanez xiphos played nicely, sounded good too. Keep those in mind, as well as the alexi-600 which is a jackson rhoads rip off.

If you want some odd/pointy guitar look at B.C Rich, people give them shit because of their poor low-end models, but those at around 800$ are good

7th-String wont interfere with thrash and heavy metal, its just going to be an additional low string, perfect for doom/death (in case you get interested in the future) metal needs

sorry bro, but all non-usa bc rich is low quality for their respective price points when compared to schecter, ibanez, jackson and esp. TS, do NOT buy bc rich guitars - avoid at all costs, oh and dean guitars too - shoddy craftsmanship on both those brands when considering non USA.
#19
People talk shit about BC Rich for a reason man. If say 8/10 people had bad experiences with their import guitars of course they'll get a bad rep, didn't help that in the 90s their quality dropped to terribly poor standards
#20
i was alway under the impression that bc riches get shit because of their bronze series, but higher end guitars are pretty good, guess i was wrong

what do you guys think about an Ibanez Xiphos? Ignoring the fact that it's a Floyd Rose...does it have a good sound?
#23
Actually, the bc rich deluxe v is an amazing guitar.. and you can likely find one used around $400

neck through, emg pickups

floyd rose (not licensed by)

higher end bc rich guitars are great, I have 2, a nj deluxe jrv, and an i.t. jr-v, I also have an 85 s series ibanez, and a jackson DKMG..

that deluxe v feels and plays as good if not better than my dkmg..

I have a Jackson RR RX10D (I think that's the model). It looks cool and the neck is crazy fast. I dropped a Seymour Duncan SH-8 in the bridge and the thing screams. I would recommend looking at V's of all those brands. But play some first. They take some getting used to.
