I don't get how people can use up so much space.

Can't you like uninstall games you're not playing at the moment?

I don't PC game a whole lot so don't kill me if it's sacrilege or something!

Also, more backup?

EDIT: Put everything in your harddrive in a zip folder and just don't use it.

Go through your computer and see what is taking up space?

The other day I found my Mac was using 70GB of space with items I had put in the trash. So I emptied the trash. Voila. 70GB more space.
#5
Yeah I'd uninstall old games, and wouldn't it be maximizing space not minimizing?

Compress the backup. Have a look around to see which compression method is best, the size of the resultant file varies a lot depending on which method you use. I think 7z is one of the better ones.

Your backup is on the same drive as the stuff you're backing up?

this - completely.

Get a cheap external drive and move your backup to that. A backup on the same disk is no use at all if the disk fails.

You'll want an external HDD for a backup anyway...

but if it's in the name of space, couldn't you just uninstall like 1 or 2 of them and then reinstall them at a later time once you're done with your some more of your 10 mother****ing other games? You'll still want to play them, and it's not like you have to buy them again.

your D: drive will most likely be a different partition on the same disk. Meaning that if the hardware of the disk itself fails, both drives will die. At a push you could just backup your really important files (stuff that can't just be downloaded again e.g. school work, business documents, digital photos etc) on a USB stick (or on a service like dropbox), all of the games and legally bought music can be redownloaded with relative ease.

It's inconvenient if anything goes wrong, but if you're really struggling for space you might want to get rid of the game and music backups and rely on steam and itunes' databases to keep your backups.

I'd advise buying a large external hard drive, but if money is an issue that's the only thing I can think of to suggest.

Uninstall games. I got down to 10GB left on a 320GB HDD. Uninstalled every game I had on steam and I suddenly had 200GB of space again.

I now no longer PC game.

Shame...
