By no means is this a final version of anything, but the last version was horrible so I redone it. Goes from a subtle spacey clean intro, to "the riff", solo and that's pretty much the premise.

Criticism is very welcome

Awesome. I like the solo, played clean and it flows very well with the backing. Really nice solo.
The clean sound is good, nothing wrong with it imo. The distortion could use some work. I think a little eqing would be enough. Add some highs, lower some mids. Just my opinion. I use reaper too and its equalizer does a good job for me.

Thanks man,I haven't really found out how to use the EQ in reaper, but keep in mind it's an effects processor from 1995, give or take.

I liked yours. Simply effective!

Hey man, good flowing solo, I especially liked the bit at 1:12. Where you using the whammy bar at that point? What scales did you use for the solo? I pretty much like everything but it would sound much better if re EQ'd, Just my opinion though, if you like it then don't change it. I love the spacey clean guitar (:

Thanks man. Basically everything I've learned is based around the blues, so mostly all pentatonics but I experiment with exotic dissonances. Pretty much what I was aiming for is creating a very tense melodic background and easing the tension (and vice versa) with the solo. Basically I don't like a guitar solo that has no bends. But I could play it plain and it would still sound like crap
And no, the only part is used the whammy bar is what I need it for; The squeals ala Dimebag and vibrato here and there on the top strings since I'm using Super Light gauge, and it gives more of a shimmery feel.

Oh and I use the Dimished 7ths scale right after that squeal, and floating in and out of major 7ths and dominant (I think?) 7ths.

Also I've never taken a lesson in my life, so really the scales thing makes no sense unless you are talking trumpet with me :]

There's a lot that this solo is cringing for. I can almost feel it going in one direction but there's some other things that just bring it down. IT's almost differentiating keys, and it's not really going anywhere. It's very odd, but I know if you smoothed out those accidentals it would really shine.

Cool guitar tone, i like the effect (phaser?) a lot. The distorted guitar sounds pretty empty. might want to double that. The lead guitar sounds sick tho. very good playing technically. gets a little hectic and unmelodic and doesnt really fit at some points. the harmonics gets a little excessive. drums would, of course, be nice to add. It sounds like a pretty decent song, sound could be much better, playing is great, song structure needs work and no real hook, not that one is needed.

Woah! That was crazy, did you actually do a double take of the solo or have you just copy+pasted and delayed it because that was SUPER tight. Musically it was top notch, everything was spot on. Mix wise the rhythm could go for less gain, more upper mids and the lead could go for some reverb + delay but I'm guessing that's on the way!
Mad effort!

It was definitely a double take. The only track I didn't double was the rhythm, except one part where the solo transitions. I almost triple layered the solo, but I didn't really need that wall of sound. Right now I'm funking with a bass line, it should be good if I can ever learn to play bass :P

And thank you very much for the kind responses.

(I am still working on the other 5 minutes of the song, btw)
