Hi everybody!

I these days I played "Blackbird"; this song basically use an easy (but very good) fingerstyle technique:

Instead of play entire chords, McCartney alternates the Root note and the third note. This is an example:

Instead of play the entire chord progression: ...G Am Bm G ...

e|-------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---0-------1-------3--------/12----12--12----12----12--12----|
G|-------0-------0-------0---------0-------0-------0-------0---|
D|-------------------------------------------------------------|
A|-----------0-------2--------/10------10------10------10------|
E|---3---------------------------------------------------------|

As you can see bass note is the root and the note on the B string are thirds (major or minor, depends on the chord).
...Ok He also play the G string.

Also in the chorus McCarney uses this tecnique:

...F Em Dm C A# C...

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---10------8-------6-------5---------3-----3---3-----5-----5---5-----|
G|-------0-------0-------0-------0---------0-------0-------0-------0---|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---8-------7-------5-------3---------1-------1-------3-------3-------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------|

Another song that use this technique is Scar Tissue by RHCP. This is the intro:

E-----------------------------------------------
B-----10--10--10--10--10----5-5/6--6--6-6-6/5---
G-----------------------------------------------
D-----------------------------------------------
A---8---8---8---8---8-------3-3/5--5-5-5-5/3----
E-----------------------------------------------

E-----------------------------------------------
B-----10--10--10--10--10--8--5/6---6p8-6p8------
G-----------------------------------------------
D-----------------------------------------------
A----8---8---8---8---8-------3/5----------------
E-----------------------------------------------

As you can see Frusciante uses the Root and the 3rd:
F C Dm C
F C Dm
.

I think this "technique" is very easy (for beginner) and also very powerful.

My question is:
Do you know other songs with the alternation of root note and 3rd??

I know that there are a huge amount of songs with the "root and 3rd apporach", but I would know songs with Root note played on the A string and 3rd note on B string like the previous examples.. they sound amazing!!!.

Brokeback Mountain's theme music is very similar to the intro of Blackbird..
