I got a new guitar today:

It's great in all aspects however whenever I rest my hand on the top strings, my palm slightly touches the pickup. It doesnt rest on it, but makes slight contact.

Can this damage the pickup?

No, but you can always lower the pickup, as it would get quite annoying.
Where's Waldo?

No, but you can give it a wipe every once in a while.

I would only worry about it if the string hit it and caused buzzing.

Yeh considering it was placed by gibson I'm sure they know what they're doing. Guess I'll just leave it, slight contact shouldnt damage it

Just spend some time comparing volume levels, if there's a noticeable jump in volume when switching pickups you might want to adjust the heights to get things more balanced.
