I bought a used music man jp6 recently, and the guy had the pick-ups swapped from the originals, to the dimarzio crunch lab and the liquifire. I also got the stock pickups when i bought the guitar.

I was thinking about swapping them, would they be better?
The original pick ups are Dimarzio BHWP2bkl and Dimarzio BHNP1bkl, I think they're custom designed for Petrucci.

also, would it be something i can do myself? or should i have a pro do it?

dimarzio crunch lab and the liquifire are petrucci's new signature pickups
Dimarzio BHWP2bkl and Dimarzio BHNP1bkl are his older ones

Both sound good, it depends on what sound you like more

And yeah, there is a stickied pickup thread for a reason. You should use it [even if no one really contributes regularly enough]
