First post, new here but not to guitar, etc...

So, to the meat and taters. I have recently gotten a used Ampeg VT-60. I love it, it sounds great. BUT-- I've been noticing this weird warbly sound on the higher frets of the top 2 strings. I tried raising the action a little, suspecting it was fret buzz, but no dice. Has anyone else ever had this problem? The note starts out normally, but then it almost sounds like a second note comes in. It sustains for all of about 2 seconds.

I'm getting new strings and playing with the setup to see if that's the problem, but i wanted to know if anyone has any experience dealing with this. I really hope nothing is wrong with my amp...

Tried very carefully muting all the other strings. Still getting weird warble. It only happens if I play fairly hard, though. And I only have a pretty horrible Squier to test with right now, as I just put new saddles on my strat and I haven't picked up new strings yet. Going to do that right now.
