So I'm more of a guitar player but I record with a 4 string bass. I just got a 7 string and I realized that I can't tune the bass down to the same tuning as the 7 string although I'm really close.

Is a bass similar to the guitar in that I can buy heavier strings and keep tension when tuning lower or will I need to make some adjustments to the bass itself?

Thanks!

Both would help, though you'd be surprised how low a set of 110s with a good set-up will go.

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

This.

If you have a 4 string bass... file the nut some to allow a set of 5-string strings and disregard the G string.

Or, you could just get a 5 string.

You can buy thicker gauge strings if you want
