So bands out there, like: Metallica, Exodus, Dream Theater, etc.. when they record, do they actually play the whole song and edit afterwards? Or do they record riff by riff and loop it in the studio?
Differs from band to band.
Lamb of god never loops their riffs.
I'm not sure about Metallica.
Some bands like recording it once then looping because it will give a tighter, more consistent riff. Others like recording the entire song in one go and editing. Mark Morton and Willie Adler say it makes it feel more human since they're not using computers to duplicate it.
