as some of you will know their was time when to try learn the guitar a pitch pipe was the only thing you had to tune with... and after a while i wonderd if the pipe has to be tuned first...
& slowed my learnig in those early years by spending forever tuning after string changes.
when i finaly got a digital one every thing sounded spot on. the doors had been opened, saved so much time

so heres the question..
has the pitch pipe had its day? or is tech making learning the guitar easyer/simpler?

or was i just held back by an out of tune pipe.. its not my ear. for 5 years the E i was getting from slash's civil war along with the fifth fret trick surved me well.

pitch pipes? that's what Fred Flintstone used to tune his guitar with, right?
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

Only poofters used pitch pipes. Us cool kids used a tuning fork.

I've probably bought about 30 different guitars over the years and I have never got a pitch pipe with any of them. Must be a First Act thing.

Real guitarists just tune by guessing.

Real guitarists invent their own tunings.

I started out with a pitch pipe and a slide rule.

Calculators came out my first year of university and I gently put the slide rule away.

I got an electronic guitar tuner a few years later and told the pitch pipe to go to hell.

A pitch pipe never did me any good. We kept our guitars in tune with themselves and with each other in the band rather than using a pitch pipe or tuned to Middle C on the piano.

I don't believe my dad was talking to me in the '80s.

Since my hearing is poor, I never used a pitch pipe. Hence must use a tuner.

I can barely get my string bends to the exact pitch it needs to be.
The content of this signature is pretty much irrelevant

I only posted Thurston because most people don't know about Ostrich tuning.

I've never used pitch pipes. And honestly, I don't use a tuner either. I use youtube video tuners and when I want to downtune/tune up, I do that by ear.

haha yah, kinda. cows are such hilarious creatures, they would be so worthless in nature. the totality of their existence is to taste good with A1 poured on them.

I discovered the existence of pitch pipes a couple months ago. My friend brought one to school for his guitar and I went around the hallways playing it during one of my off blocks because I was bored.

I own an electronic tuner but I rarely use it. I can usually pull that low E out of the air and get the rest in tune fine. if there's a lot of noise around sometimes it's just easier to use the tuner.

Real guitarists adjust finger pressure and bend on every note to bring it to perfect pitch.

Every time I see you say that, I'm going to report you.

Anyways, I still have a pitch pipe in my room somewhere. I use my Korg tuner though.

I sometimes use a pitch pipe, but I can do it by ear now and get very close to E standard. Just a few cents out.
