Hello everyone,

I would like to know what are the differences in tone between Gibson 57 Classics, and the famous 498T/490R pickups that come stock in most Les Pauls.

I have the 57 Classics but I bought them without reading enough about them and now I wander if I should have bought the regular Les Paul pickups.

Thanks!

57 classics are meant to sound similar to old PAFs. lower output than the 490/498 set.

the 498 is hotter and uses alnico V mags instead of alnico IIs.

iirc.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

I think you're right, but I'm not completely up on Gibson pickups. They're pretty mediocre for the price, imo. =/

^They say Gibson. Therefore,

Price divided by 2 = Value

Just the way it is these days, unfortunately. This coming from a guy who played a Gibson custom shop LP, loved it, but would never ever waste so much of my hard earned cash.
