I've been looking and trying (and buying and returning) amps. So far I've insisted on all tube, but I think it's a lost cause to find something around 20 watts that's all tube and does metal without a pedal. So I don't care if it's all tube, if it's sounds good, it's fine.

But it should sound good at bedroom practice volumes and still be able to be heard above drums for rehearsal or a small bar gig. I want a combo, don't want the hassle of hauling a head and cab. 20 - 30 watts, tops, but amps with less are fine too. No Line6 please, I've owned 2 of them (AX2 212 and Spider IV 75) and hated them both.

Amps I've bought and returned:

Orange Tiny Terror
Marshall Class5 (ok, I knew it wasn't metal, but I thought maybe with a pedal, but no)
Blackstar HT-5, HT-20 (more like hard rock)

Have you tried the Krank Rev Jr Pro? That amp brings the brootalz easily without any pedal.

it's so cool to hate Gibson, even the federal Department of Justice hates them.
