i was thinking maybe they would feel too loose if i tune half step down since they're already pretty thin strings, not sure though because i never played with eights

yeah... might be too thin and loose.... why do you want to try that?

it's easier to shred with 8s for what i've heard

Easier to sound out of tune with that slack. To each their own.

I play with 11's and i either tune a half or full step down and it feels right to me. 8's seem really thin for any type of down tuning.

I use 8s at the moment and play most often in standard or half step down. Sounds and feels fine to me, but really it comes down to opinion.

Thicker strings also have a thicker sound.. The lighter string you use, you will get a twangier sound. I usually make my own hybrid sets.. I run a standard 11 gauge set with a 12 on the high string for a meatier sound for soloing.

I use .012-.56, and I am fairly quick on my fingers. Can bend as well.

Wouldn't all that slack make it harder to play quickly? To each their own I guess.
