So, do these take any ordinary acoustic strings?

That's a beauty, especially for 10 pounds, thats about $15 US I think. They should take normal acoustic strings, you might take it to a local music store and see what they recommend. Cheers

It might have really light bracing, or be a little bit fragile, being older and such. You might want to consider lighter gauge strings, or lighter tension strings like silk and steels.

I have a similiar guitar, that's been passed down in my family, and as I'm the only one who plays it, I keep it in D standard, to relieve the tension, and use light (.011) 80/20 strings on it.
