100 watt fender though a 2 x 12'' cab 8 ohms

practice volume at 2

band practice with the drums next to it at 5

and at a open air concert at 7-9

at other places it really depends, or i use the amps at the gig

edit: I never use the gain knob in my amp, I prefer pedals for effects,
generally I use Metal Muff or the Big Muff Pi
Opus Pocus =]

150 marshall AVT150x channel volume all the way up. gain usually at 1/4 to 1/2 max. and then the MV mostly at 1/4 and occasionally a tad up to get it working a little harder. anything higher just sounds like grandma on the potty.

I live in a small apartment with neighbors real close.... Since I have gotten my JSX 120W combo, I have only played it once at high volume (had to test it ). I usually practice ona baby Marshall 10W, and even with that I can rarely go over 1/2 volume. I want to get back in a house soon :'(

I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

At home I keep it around 7 o' clock or 8 o' clock. With one other guitarist I'll have it at 9 o' clock. With a full band, anywhere between 10 o' clock and 2 o' clock.

Shit is ridiculously loud though.

What a pointless poll as some amps 0 volume is at 6 o'clock some it may be at 7 o'clock and i have even seen an amps 0 volume at 12 o'clock so it all depends on the configuration of the volume pots, it would make sense to poll "what is your volume"
#15
No volume knob on my amp, I keep input gain at 2, output gain at 3, presence at 5

which is 9 o'clock, 9:30, and 12 o'clock on my amp

Hi def earplugs... Channel volumes between 10:00 (distorted rhythm) and 1:00 (leads, cleans with the gain down), master volume at 9:00 at home, 11:00 or noon at practice, and will be 1:00 or 2:00 live if my band ever plays live
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

We all need 1,000 watters Dave, that way you can burst both the ear-drum and balls of your mortal enemy.

True artists suffer for their art. If your hearing isn't missing a frequency range by the time you hit 50 you're just a poser.

duh.

I still thought it'd be loud though. Sound terrible, but loud. It was literally a foot behind me and my ears were fine.

Just a side note, let's not forget, some of the guys that are playing classic rock through their 100 watters are cranking to get power tube saturation while modern metal guys are turning it up only enough to be heard and then some in order to get the tubes cooking a bit.

So the genre/style bias also affects the poll.

Ippon you fail!

But f'reals, that's also something to take into account.

I'm a metalhead who likes power tube saturation.

this. the only SS marshall i've ever liked was my lead 12, and that's only when i'm using it as a preamp through a tube power amp

i have a 100 watt solid state that can get speaker distortion out of a cabinet rated for 120 watts with the volume on 2 - i think something's definitely not right about that

^ugh, that picture nearly gave me a heart attack, for some reason

but modern metal (any metal) does not sound good at low volumes. Part of what makes metal, hard rock, punk, etc the way it is is the F*** You! attitude and crank that sum bitch up.

That is why 5 watt'rs fail at this.

Which is why I mentioned the "get the tubes cooking" part. I wasn't intending to say get it so you can hear yourself and that's it...get it to that point, then crank it up until the point of it getting mushy due to PT saturation.

I mean, I was just trying to be a little lulzy and facetious.
