When I first heard yngwie malmsteen i thought he was a joke about the stupidity/excess of shred guitar and some of these super-heavy makle-up wearing metal bands seem like a joke too. I know a few people who thought pinball wizard was a joke song too.

Ever done this?

You are EXTREMELY WRONG! I have played it. I own an 18W and it would be an awful stereo amp, it's way too bright, breaks up too easily and so on. Secondly, why would a guitar store sell an hifi amp.

Pretty much any metal band who does the whole 'brootalz' thing with the makeup and the standing around in the woods / pretending to be a viking or whatever. Honestly... it's shocking that there are people who will take themselves seriously whilst doing that shit.

Bob Dylan painted his face for awhile. I took him rather seriously.

If that counts, I thought Spinal Tap was real; I even didn't know that they were fake after watching the "documentary".

I always thought of them as only hilariously bad, but whatever. They aren't the brightest kind; one of them burned down half a dozen churches and killed his bandmate, yet is still quoted like a god sometimes on here.

Yea but I think we all know what he means. The guys who, not just paint their faces, dress like vikings, and walk around in the woods.... but who also just seem to be playing acoustic guitars.

I dunno. I can't believe anyone can take themselves seriously doing that. And I quite like some good death metal

lil wayne.
i saw him on tv and he was showing his godawful braces and rapping like an idiot.
I thought it was a joke, kinda like Weird Al does.

Bring me the horizon.... I thought they were a few teenage girls pretenting they thought they knew about 'metal'.

Oh......they are...

I always thought the Darkness were a joke band up until I saw how seriously they were taken at Download Festival.. Which I fast-forwarded anyway.

The Beatles, bunch of mop-headed tits singing about coloured submersibles and tangerines in sea creature's flowerbeds and shit. Sing about having your heart broken by your 8th grade crush like the rest of us, dickheads.

I don't take bob very seriously these days, but there's a difference between painting your face and then going for the whole corpse paint / br00talz viking man in woods thing. It's so cliche and pathetic, if i ever got anywhere with my band i think it would be good material to parody as a cover art or something similar tbh.

I have a friend who's into all that stuff and even he's had to admit that it is cringeworthy tbh. Although, it's not far off other cliches in music, like a lot of rock bands now you'll see standing around in some industrial looking area, all wearing dark clothing and potentially leather jackets and looking 'serious' with arms crossed etc. That's another cliche that is pretty stupid.

I really try to not flame bands I don't like but I have an extremely hard time taking metal bands seriously. I just find the whole genre very lame, especially the bands with such painfully horrible lyrics about death, rape, murder and such.

QOTSA, The Dillinger Escape Plan. Both are actually amazing bands that have nothign to do with jokez.

Alestorm. Not that the cross-over didn't work, more just that it seemed so absurd to make a band out of it.

This exact thing.

Most artists band who make what they do as what they sing about. Rock N' Roll All Night, and all these silly song titles. I can't take it seriously.

It's quite obvious that these band are playin music, do they have to sing about it too? Sing about something interesting instead. To not use the lyrics as a way of communication beyond the obvious "it's rock n roll" is just idiotic.

I don't know if this is a joke post or not.... I really hope it is.

Tenacious D. They're actually far more awesome than credited for and are one of the greatest live bands I've seen.

Oh yeah. I really dislike that classic rock revival traditionalist thing and have a hard time taking such bands seriously. Seems that most of them are all ripping off the big bands of the 70's and 80's and justifying it in the name of rock n' roll.

In the underground metal scene the french part of Canada is well known for the porn-grind genre.

The whole genre is a joke, but meh, sometime I can get myself to enjoy it.
