Hey guys!
Just finished recording 3 new tracks for my next free LP (vocals will be added soon)
Hope you like it!

FACEBOOK / MUSIC

Here's a link to a free download of my first EP 'Restless' and the page with all my tracks on so far. (http://www.tinyurl.com/RestlessEP - Free Download)
My project is called 'House Of Broken Glass' and on my first release i've had help from ex The Gorgeous frontman Jordon Daniel (used to be signed to Distort Entertainment along with Alexisonfire and Bleeding Through) and ex Taken by the Tide frontman Ben Adams.
The recording process has gave me a lot of experience ready from when I do the follow up.
And any feedback would be great!

critiquing as i go

Can you hear them Call:

Nice intro into the song, could just be my speakers but the vocals are really hard for me to hear, maybe theres too much reverb on them too, but the harmonies are nice. I really like the drums too, they sound great. I can definitely hear the explosions in the sky influence.

Orchid:

Really ambient, its a little slow for me at the present but i have high hopes. Well, i was hoping for it to hit me with something, but it just faded out. I guess this is more of an interlude? IT sounded nice though.

The World's Asleep...:

I like the rain sample very ethereal. The drums work very well with the sound so far. Vocals could be mixed up a bit. At 3:00 i feel like the sound doesnt hit me as it should, i think if your vocal was a little more aggressive that would help. The effects on the instruments are all really good, but i feel like something is lacking.

Safe Place:

Nothing to really say about this one

As a whole i think i get what you are going for. Everything is really spacey and ambient and sounds good, and works as music to put behind something that you are doing. But as songs, for me, they arent rewarding to listen to, they all fade in and out and there arent many parts the spark my interest because they are just too mellow for my taste. But i do appreciate what youve done here.

Hopefully you can take a listen to mine?

Tonight the earth will open up had a really epic feeling which went really well with the title. This was really cool man! I really loved that it was kinda ambient but still really rocky. I think it would sound really cool with the vocals your adding later!
The metaly part at the end came very suddenly but that was a cool unexpected move and I like that so it went pretty well with the rest of the song, to break out a bit with some variation And the outro was gold, I really enjoyed the deep basses in it!

Weeell, an ambienty epic rocksong, really cool And I think it will be even better and sound less repeated (not that it does now) with vocals later on!

if you want you can have a listen at mine and say what you think?

Cool cool cool, great sounding music. The bass part/low part is a little distracting to me I would of held more notes, instead it hits everybeat and it cuts through. The guitar play is excellent great tone. Could really do with some vocals, it would really help some of the places where it changes a little too drastically. But yeah great job, it's really good sounding. C4C? https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1512464

I also have some post rock on my Soundcloud that I recorded (Blessed Be The Fishes, and I Wish That My Fingers Were Nails Because Yours Are Already Crosses)

On Tonight the Earth Will Open Up :: First thought was Angels & Airwaves. I love how melodic the song is. The mix is full but not overcrowded - on fat speakers, it would boom! I wish you had the vocals layered in but I assume the string work in the chorus was playing the vocal melody? Section at 5:00 turned into a little bit of Fightstar. If these guys are your influences, then it's certainly coming through and I think that's a great thing - an awesome market for you there. Not too much to critique songwriting wise. Favorite parts go to the intro and when the drums kick in at 20 secs. Well done bud!

Tonight the Earth Will Open up was amazing. For most of it I was thinking "this is pretty cool and relaxing, production is good, music isn't even that boring without the vocals" At 4:33 I just got knocked on my ass. I love the low bass rumble at that part its vibrating my floor as I type this message. Wicked song man keep it up!

Thanks a lot man! It's going to be hard to add some vocals to the track. And I'm glad you like the end part as well mate. I guess that low rumble will be the earth opening up hahaha
Having labyrinthitis didn't help when recording that part! haha

Tonight the Earth...: hits big at the start which is cool. A lot of tracks like this have mellow beginnings that then hit the big stuff but I like the way this works. Drums sound good. Track generally sounds very big and epic. Nicely recorded overall. Not sure about the middle 8th, not sure it's quite cohesive with the track. When it kicks back in though it sounds awesome. Perhaps a bit less treble on the rhythm guitar, especially the choppy bits. Breakdown around 3:50 is good. Piano bits work really well here. Really enjoyed that part.

Heavy crescendo works well. Guitar tone might be a bit too driven though. Sounds a bit 'digital'.

Overall, really good track. Enjoyed that a lot.

Sway: heavily delayed guitar in the intro is good but the tone seems a bit off, ears kinda want it to be a bit fuller. Again I'd prefer a little less treble on the choppy guitar stuff when it comes in, just needs to be a bit fuller. The bit when that goes is really good. Hits the ears in the right kinda way. Love the delayed guitar work at the end.

Safe place: like that intro. nice guitar work and the atmospheric sounds in the background work great. guitar tone sounds real nice. Really like that track overall.

World's asleep: great guitar tone on the intro. Not sure about the middle eighth. Guitar sounds good all the way through though. Very cool. The song's crescendo sounds a little too loud/like there's too much going on. Perhaps could do with 'clearing the air' a little. Again very nice track.

Genuinely really enjoyed listening to those tracks. Great stuff mate. I think any criticism I've given may just boil down to personal preference stuff > being inherently off or anything. Really good job.

HOBGUK,
Thanks for the reviews! Now listening to "Earth Will Open Up": Yep, could definitely use some vocals. What you have so far though is very good! Certain elements of this remind me of the Cure (a compliment). If you can record vocals that are as good as the instrumental part, I think you could have a radio-worthy song. Sounds rather professional for the most part.

I'll back up what others have said so far - I was pleased when I read (after listening to a bit of the Soundcloud tracks) that you're planning to add vocals. That's because I think you have a nice enough sound, but to me - and I think this is just a personal thing as I've never quite 'got' the post-rock aesthetic - too much of it feels like it's just meandering, as it is. Saying that, though, Sway might not actually need vocals necessarily, as that has more going for it than Tonight the Earth..., but even then I think it's still just one ingredient away from being really captivating.

Don't get me wrong, I think both are fine, but maybe a bit more adventure in the chord progressions could add to the 'epic' sound you presumably want to achieve.

You seem to have got lots of good feedback anyway so you're doing something right! Keep it up

Meanwhile here's my link from earlier today if you're interested:

Loving them muffled drums at the beginning of the track. Guitars sound great as well as the overall atmosphere of the song. I like how u created space with the violins very emotional indeed. Definitely a song to listen to I wana hear it with vocals asap xD
9/10

Liking the buildup here not sure about the clean guitar it seems awfully crowded to be honest. I mean i like the atmosphere with the far away drums but possibly vocals might fix it but other then that i cant say for sure if I like this. Hmm I hear you used the plugin glitch possibly for those effects. Niceee Yeah vocals would be fun to hear with this track definitely xD
8/10

Ok-Tonight the earth will open up. Im a huge fan of this sort of music so I may be a little biased. I love the intro and the drums in the heavier bit are really nicely placed in the mix. Chord prog is tight, whatever effects you have on the guitars here is really good also. Needs more bass in the mix in my opinion. The great thing about this sort of music is atmosphere and a good post-rock tune will carry you on a journey which this does. The breakdown with ****ed up guitar is a nice surprise, what effect do you use there? Outro riff is really cool, heavy as **** and totally unexpected....nice touch. All in all 8/10, nice guitar work and good use of effects with a great atmosphere.
