Digitech makes some mfx units that are great for giging. I have the rp355 and it has great sounding effects and distortions. The rp500 would be great for giging because of the 5 footswitches and the amp/cab bypass button. I highly recommend it http://www.digitech.com/en/products/rp500

I've got a Boss ME50 which has managed everything I've ever asked of it - a good range of sounds, well built & reliable enough for gigging, easy to use and not too expensive. Should be in your price range & easy to find.
