I heard there were some things you had to be wary off as far how it reacts with your pickups (the rosin?). I'd like to pick up on it, because I feel drawn to that sort of effect and sound.

Rosin is used to get additional grip on the strings. I play violin and also use a bowed guitar frequently. I would recommend using covered pickups and as little rosin as possible.

EDIT: Ebow != violin bow. They are very different sounds.
