so i'm looking for ideas on a new car, used is ok too.

a few things i need.

the top must go down or retract in some way.
must have serious balls.
i prefer normally aspirated, but i'm open to turbos/superchargers.
manual transmission, i'm a 3 pedal kind of driver.
must run on 92 octane or below. i know, it sucks...
the garage space is less than 20 feet long. width isn't a problem.
i'm 6'4" tall, so legroom is a must.
i'm also ok with old muscle cars, but have a couple so no GM A bodies.

it won't be a daily driver, just something to take out on the weekends etc.

budget, $80-100K. i'm in the US.

cars i've had that didn't quite do the trick.
zr1 corvette
viper srt
911 turbo

i can't wait to see what we come up with.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Something tells me if you're asking the pit about what car you could spend that kind of cash on you're either a troll or you don't know shit about cars. Why would you spend that much money on something you know nothing about?
#4
Nissan GT-R.

The fact that you had that list of cars and were unsatisfied with all three of them tells me something very, very bad about you.

I actually got to drive one of those when I was valeting a few years back. It was wholly underwhelming. Though that could have been because the car's owner insisted on sitting in the passenger seat while I drove it. He claimed that I wouldn't understand how a paddle shit works. HONESTLY, who the hell would get fooled by a paddle shift?

Do it.

That. Or a DB9 if you could afford one/obtain one.

Alternatively if you want an older one try and get an R34 Skyline or something along those lines. I used to love those cars.

i like the skyline, but i don't believe it's available in a convertible.

i agree with the one poster that the maz is underwhelming. better options exist.

used DB is a good idea, pretty sure those can be converts.

i asked here to get more ideas, the stuff my gal came up with was all boring crap.

no challenger, not after the viper fiasco. but thanks for contributing.

any other thoughts. lol at the spammers and flamers.

anyone like tvr? we don't see a lot of those in the US or are they garbage?

Cars are seriously one of the worst investments you can make.

You'd be far better off putting that money to work instead of pissing it on something that is only going to devalue rapidly.

it's not an investment. i have an open spot in the garage next to the muscle car.

she wanted a small convertible, i gave her my 911.

if i buy used, i probably won't lose much if i decide to sell it.

i've made money on most of the cars i've owned.

except the viper. lost my ars on that one.

TVRs aren't only garbage, they're dangerous garbage. Front engine rear drive, overpowered and badly balanced means the back end gives out at the slightest overapplication of power, and they oversteer like hell. I'd honestly actually drop your budget, and go for a Subaru STi or Impreza WRX - you can spend the surplus modding it or fitting aftermarket parts. Failing that, you could go for the more executive side of things and go for a Mercedes SLK200 Kompressor or similar. Myself, I drive a 1995 MGF convertible and in my opinion it rivals some of the big guns for style and ride comfort, if at the expense of a little horsepower. But what it lacks in raw horses it makes up for in handling and power-to-weight.

Just some ideas.

TS what do you do for a living?

And how could you not like the ZR-1?

I agree with most people that the NIssan GT-R seems like a good next step, but it isn't available with manual.

And I don't think TVRs are sold in the US.

In the EDIT:

And if you buy and sell cars as fast as you say you do, a DB9 probably won't be a good idea. They depreciate like crazy.

wtf?

you guys don't buy smart? why am i a troll? because i'm looking for ideas?

everyone in the car thread thinks they know more than me about cars, so i thought maybe, just maybe you guys could give me some ideas aside the used SL 600 my boss thinks i should get.

so far some people have, the rest can't seem to wrap their brains around it.

one example for you. i have a wall of pics of cars i've had.

1967 ford galaxie 500 convert. 428 CI, all original but a bit tired.
purchased for $5300, put a couple grand into it and sold it for over $10K.

if you buy smart, you can make money on them. if you know what you are doing anyway.

i own my own business. so sales, acct, collections etc. mostly i babysit employees really.

the zr1 is a nice car, i won't lie. but since i've had one i didn't want it suggested here, thought it would make things more productive.

i am considering grabbing one, but again, the more options the better.

edit: since i've had a lot of muscle cars, something like a DB or Skyline would be cool.

thanks on the tvr info, i could get one here, there are people that would import one.

so are you looking for a car to gain money on, or are you looking for a vehicle to add to your collection that is already in pristine condition?

neither. just a nice convert to drive on the weekends and stuff.

i don't collect them, i usually have a couple then if someone wants to buy one and i'm ok with getting something else i sell it.

if you aren't looking to sell, you can set your price within normal limits for that car in the market.

she wanted the 911, so i have a spot open. we sold her lexus IS convert so it's shopping time.
