Honestly doesn't sound too bad IMO, but it is definitely meant to be cranked up. With my master volume.

Just dont expect any balls from it, and it sounds a bit nasally which can be controlled with the presence and mid knobs

If it has some type of master volume control, then yes.

If not you will have to use an attenuator to get the same tone and saturation like the amp is cranked at lower volumes.

This is terrible advice. Even worse than the useless dry, sarcastic comment I made.

You don't buy a 2203 to play in the bedroom. You buy a 2203 to use at gigs. It will work at home for just doodling around but it won't sound as good (of course) but good enough to practice with. You don't need epic tone in the bedroom any more than you need mood lighting to masturbate.

my friends dad has a jcm 800 100w full stack (not sure if its the 03 or 04 model) and he just runs the gain really low and uses a blackstar tube distortion pedal for low volumes

The 2204 is the 50W'er, it's the 2203 that's 100W. You are better off with a 2203, you can always pull two tubes to turn a 2203 into a 2204 but you can't go the other direction.

This is the correct answer. I run at half power as well but I also own a suck box

on the other hand you do need the epicest tone you can possibly get in the bedroom, in case that's the only place you can play in.

Then you don't buy a 2203.

If there was ever an amp that needed to be loud to sound good, it's the JCM 800.

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.
