Im 20 (21 next month) so dont think this is some teen just finding out about smoking for the first time.

basically tonight one of my closest friends "lit up" for the first time infront of me. I didnt know she smoked until now, turns out she has been for a while...

is it wrong of me to view her in a totally different light now?

kind of sitting her feeling like she has lied to me... feels abit like I never knew her in the first place, I always thought she was "better" than this....

not that I know what "better" is.... I guess I kind of hold smoking in a bad light?

ALOT of my relatives have died from cancer, it runs in the family so if I smoke of not im going to get it but I cant help but associate the "C" word with smoking...

has anybody else felt like this?

how did you get past it?

help....

I often feel the same way when I see girls smoke, but I have to remind myself that it changes nothing about their personality and it's their choice

It's just a knee-jerk reaction.

everyone has a flaw, chances are, if someone's awesome, they have a way to deal with that. no, you shouldn't see her in a different light, but if you can't help it, confront her about it and tell her how you feel so she can tell you how irrational you're being.

It shouldn't be a problem from a moral standpoint, however it's a problem if you wanna kiss her and taste it! Or have smoke blown in your damn face every ten minutes. Not that I'm bitter about anyone in particular...

^ That

Alright not that. But the little bitch thing.

You, good sir, have not gone over to your friends house after a hard night of drinking to find 2 dudes passed out in the same room both holding their own flaccid cocks in hand, passed out, with porn on the tv.

I kind of feel that way when I find out someone I respect looks down on people for smoking.

You don't read very well, do you? He's not stopping her..He's just complaining about it to a bunch of people who smoke.

More worried for his friend if anything.
#14
I'd respect her less for idiotically choosing to do something potentially harmful to her body that reaps no benefits at all.

Besides that, I wouldn't have a problem and continue to be super best friends I guess.

Are you going out with her? If not, you have no right to judge unless she puts a cigarette out on your forearm.

From my experiance,
telling your smoking friends that it's unhealthy won't do shit, because they know that very well.

Try it with:
"Hey, I really like the fact that you're helping the economy by wasting your money on cigarettes"

or

"I'm sure every boy/girl (depending on orientation) would love to kiss an ashtray! It's the hip thing to do these days"

I do look at people differently when I find out they smoke, but I don't think any less of them. I think they made a stupid choice, but that's merely my opinion. I'm sure people would think sitting inside playing video games and guitar versus hanging out with friends would be a stupid choice, but I don't.

Next time you see her smoking just whip it out and tell her to smoke on that, it's better for her health.

Seriously, don't get to caught up on that, if she really is your friend then it doesn't matter whether she smokes or not, she's still the same person

Why's it different if he's dating her?

BTW, do you think she's cooler now?

This. I don't understand why younger people pick up smoking in the first place with all the anti-smoking campaigns and all the health risks. Any "benefits" of smoking are definitely not worth the cancer.

OT: Finding out someone who's close to me smokes will just make me wonder why they took such a reckless decision in the first place.

agree with this post, minus what is bolded. like yes...it's their body etc, but their smoking is something we will be paying for when they get cancer, COPD, emphysema etc.

why? funeral costs or something?

My guess is something involving insurance premiums going up?

With the non taxed money they put back into our economy by buying copious amounts of cigarettes anyway.
I don't see what the big deal is. I just turned 20 not long ago, and smoked for 6 years of my life (quit at the start of this year). I don't look down on anyone who still smokes. I've even stopped telling people they should quit, which I used to do a lot when I did smoke, albeit ironically and half jokingly.

The problem is that this is a matter of a person's individual rights to partake of something, even though it is harmful to themselves, but not necessarily causing harm to others.

Plus, you're judging someone based on something that has almost nothing to do with who they really are.

The pit is a very elitist place. You need to be a extreme left wing libertarian socialist and agree with everything they say or else you are an ignorant misinformed republican who hates babies.
