I just discovered that The Mars Volta's Frances The Mute was inspired by somebody's diary. I'm working on a solo project right now and I thought, why not take a break and work on some experimental material.

And then I thought, why not write something based on a book. Suggestions, Pit?
It rules guitarists with an iron fist. It is their mistress, and it is their haunted soul....Kingdoms (of tone) rise and fall and bend to its will. It is the siren. It is the dryad. It is the beautiful cruelty. It is delay.

This.
Though, Hansi sings about other stories as well, such as Otherland, Song of Ice and Fire and Wheel of Time.
That makes me wonder, has Blind Guardian ever made a song about Sword of Truth?

I've always thought the Great Gatsby would make a good opera. Not only is it a romantic story, but you could use the 1920s big band idiom for some of the arias/recitatives.

Also, The Odyssey, it was meant to be sung anyways, so find a good poetic translation and set the whole thing to music (I really don't know why composers haven't done this, since most of them idolize greek art)

I'm actually writing a short EP for a school summer project on An American Childhood, but that's because I have to. Even so, the memoir format gives me an excuse to write linearly.

It's one song with multiple sections but I still consider it an EP

everybody poops... great book. One of the little perks of being a parent, it opens up a whole new world of culture.

Lord of the Rings? Some guy named Robert Plant wrote some songs about that one...

Good call on the Gunslinger series also...
The Stand would be solid also.
Baby can you dig your man?
The Ballad of Trashcanman and the Kid
The Wolves
Harold's Tissues

Oh yea.. lotta tracks on that one

That's called "La Divina Commedia" or The Divine Comedy. Call me irrational, but it pisses me off immensely when somebody refers to it only because they know the video game, which was not only innacurate but completely shite as well. And this is coming from a person who likes these games.

I mean the whole thing, with all 12,110 lines used as libretto (lyrics), from start to finish.

Lets not forget covers of songs that King quotes before each book, such as Springsteen's Jungleland

The Dark Tower series.

The lake was silent for some time. Finally it said:
"I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that Narcissus was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected."

Sherlock Holmes?

I could totally image it being this bluesy-jazzy type album.

Sort of like the music in the NES game of Darkwing Duck.

Skate by Michael Harmon, would be the best hardcore punk album ever.
