Sup people!

I have a question about muting and getting a good clean tone on every note for a Legato-Stringskipping tapping lick im working on. It´s really just a basic Scale sequence and looks like this.

E|---------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------h5h8t12p8p5--|
D|---------------5h8t12p8p5----------------------------------| Etc.
A|--------------------------------h5h8t12----------------------|
E|---h5h8t12---------------------------------------------------|

How do i mute the 12th fret after tapping it and how do i get a clean note on the 5th fret when hammering it. I just can't get it to work.

Thanks in advance.

You mute it with your right hand's palm, either roll or move your hand. You get a clean note by hitting the string precisely.

This is something that requires quite a bit of practise to get used to.

EDIT: I'd actually recommend practising this stuff on the thinner strings. Firstly it should be easier to mute and fret them and secondly the way you mute them may be different on them.

EDIT2: maybe try simplifying the exercise to something like this:

e|-------9--12-15-12--------|
B|--------------------------|
G|---15---------------------| x999
D|--------------------------|
A|--------------------------|
E|--------------------------|
E:-6
B:-0
G:-5
D:-6
A:-0
E:-3
