I am planning on changing the tubes in my Peavey 6505+ 112 combo amp. Right now the amp has Ruby 7025SS/ 12AX7A tubes in the preamp section. I went on their site and can't find that tube anywhere. I was wondering if the 12AX7AC5 HG is the same as the Ruby 7025SS?

Another question I have... If I was to change the tubes with totally different brand such as JJ's, what would I have to do to the amp?

Thanks in advance...I'm new to tube amps!!

Ruby tubes are rebranded, they don't make their own. Stick JJ 12AX7 (ECC83S) in it. No mods needed, just plug 'em in.

+1 to cath

remember you need one with balanced triodes for the phase inverter. i cant see needing a high gain tested tube for a 5150 platform, but i would maybe pick one up to move it around to see if you would like it better in one socket than the other.

Ok thanks for that, but I changed them to JJ ECC83S and for some reason my amp does not sound as...tight...as it did before. For some reason it doesn't sound as good as it use too. That's why I was wondering maybe I should of kept the same tubes as before.

A common way to go is to run a different valve in V1. I recommend a NOS JAN Phillips 12AX7 in V1 and JJ ECC83S everywhere else. That should sort you out nicely. The Phillips will cost you more but it's worth it seeing as you are only using one of them. There are any number of NOS valves I could recommend for V1 but the JAN Phillips ones are still available at decent prices. They sound like a lot like an old Mullard.
