Well, I didn't see anything like this, and thought it'd be nice. You can discuss bands like Wavves, Best Coast, Yuck, etc. here. Maybe we can make it fancier if this proves to work out.

That said, I am just in love with Wavves lately. Life Sux is gonna be great, and I'll be seeing them (along with yuck) on the weezer cruise. I know Wavves gets a lot of hate, but King of the Beach is easily just as good as Wavvves and Wavves. So lets talk about fun bands like that.

I really like lo-fi powerpop - like White Wires, Nobunny, Exploding Hearts, et al. - I like Wavves and Best Coast too, but I'm partial to the punkier stuff. My current music project is pretty much just shamelessly aping the whole sound, but I haven't written/recorded any new songs in ages.

And I hope you have fun on the Weezer Cruise. It looks incredible.

I love Best Coast. I saw them live about a month ago, not the best band live but Beth was funny and I liked some of the things they did to their songs live. All in all a fun time.

Wavves is p good but I don't really like his older stuff. I only really like King Of The Beach =/

A great lo-fi band is Cloud Nothings. We should all talk about them for a while.

Don't forget about Daniel Johnston! The king of lo-fi. He was DIY before that was cool and he's an incredible song writer. I'm happy to says I've spent a few hours hanging out with that genius. He's also quite the jokester.

I don't think anything really unites the bands that are labelled 'lo-fi' except their production values.

I mean what do guided by voices and the black metal bands that embrace the 'lo-fi aesthetic' have in common?

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

The cruise will definitely be sweet.

I like exploding hearts, but they're the only one of those bands I know. I will make a point to listen to the others.

At first I only liked King of the Beach, but then once I heard No Hope Kids, it really helped me get into the rest of the first two albums. It's the best Wavves song ever dood.

This is a well-timed thread - going to see Best Coast in an hour and got tickets for Yuck in November. I love Cloud Nothings too, they seemed a bit one-dimensional at first but now i just think they're really catchy. Look fun live too

Everyone here should check out Kurt Vile too if they haven't already - he's more of a lo-fi singer-songwriter than a fuzzy indie band, but he's just so good.

How was Best Coast ? They're definitely on my list of bands to catch, but its fairly uncommon for good bands to stop in pittsburgh...and even though yuck is coming here, it's an over 21 venue.

I just preordered Life Sux, and ordered the Summer is Forever single. Vinyl is fun.

If I'm honest ... they were awful. Worst live band I've ever seen. Sure, they weren't helped by the sound man (you could barely hear Beth's guitar) but they were often a bit out of time, had nothing interesting to say between songs and B really couldn't sing. Some songs were basically unrecognisable from the recorded versions, as she was singing the vocal hooks so badly.

To be fair she'd said she was ill quite recently, but if that was what caused them to be so bad then they just shouldn't have bothered showing up. Gah

To balance out all that negativity, here's a nice tune by Chad VanGaalen. Love his albums and is amazing/hilarious live, a must see if you get a chance to catch him.

That's really tragic I will still give them a chance, but if I do, I hope they are better.

It isn't like the kind of rocking stuff the rest of these bands do, but Youth Lagoon is an AMAZING band. I cannot emphasize enough how great they are. Easily a favorite band of mine, I saw them live and they were truly great. Cannot recommend them enough.

Beth was p funny in between songs when I saw them a while back. But yeah, definitely not the best band live.

Oh hey, Shakedown arrived on saturday

its not the thickest vinyl I've ever seen, but it's mint green, so that's fun. THe first side is alright, a little slow, it sounds like it needs to be played at a speed somewhere between 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. But side two is super cool. It has this sort of motorik thing going on and some really nice riffs. I would say certainly go for it.
