So, I work grave shifts. I got home this morning at 8 AM, showered, and went right to bed. I was asleep by 8:30. And I felt as I was falling asleep that I was about to go into some really deep sleep. I woke up at 3:00 and started getting myself ready for my day...or so I thought. After getting out of bed, stretching, and looking at the clock, I realized I only slept for an hour: It was 9:35.

WHAT
THE
DUCK?

I'm really confused too, because I slept so Goddamn deeply that I feel more refreshed than I have from sleeping 5 and 6 hours the nights before.
Has this ever happened to any of you before? And is it healthy for me to just go about my day, knowing full well that I have to go start another 8 hour shift in 13 hours?
I can't exactly nap later in the day because I gotta be in the recording studio with my band to mix our album at 4...

****. If that's the case, I missed recording, and work.
But it's not.

Also, no drugs. I haven't had any mind-altering substances. I didn't even take melatonin before sleep (which I probably should have).

Maybe you were so tired that as soon as you fell asleep you went into REM? After all, I do believe we only get a couple of hours of REM sleep a night anyways.

You're still asleep and this is part of your dream.

Did you fall back asleep afterwards, or did you just go about your day/night? and how did it affect your ability to function if you did stay awake?

I thought that Stage 4 NREM sleep was the deepest sleep and REM sleep is the closest to being awake?

lol SteveHouse.
If this were a blog, I'd have posted it on Facebook...
And I did.

But I really do wanna know if anyone has experience with this. I don't wanna pass out at work tonight and have my arm chopped off or something.

You're probably gonna zonk out again in a few hours. Expect a lengthy nap.

Well fack.

I guess I'll just pop a melatonin then and pray I don't sleep through my alarm.

Also.

I'm sorry you live in Oklahoma. Lived there for 15 years. Hated every second of it (except Sooner football, but I can still watch that on TV)

You sleep in cycles, and its much more restful to wake up after a completed one. So I'm guessing thats why.
This is why I don't like arguing on the internet.

You probably actually slept for 45 minutes rather than an hour. That's one full "sleep-cycle", and would explain the feeling refreshed.
When I had late nights and early mornings during my college days, I'd set my sleep patterns so that I'd have an amount somewhere around 45 minute increments (usually 6 hours was what I got) and worked pretty damn well.
