I've got alot of material ready and been wanting to put together a cd. What mic would be good for metal guitar?

I dont have much experience, but I think the general standard is a Shure SM57if not that than an SM58.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Yeah, Sm57 is pretty standard. The sennheiser E609 is also good, quite a few people double mic with a 609 and sm57.
For Frodo!

I really like the Sm57, but I know that the Sennheiser E609 is pretty good too.
You and I are mortal, but rock n roll will never die.

As people have said, the Shure SM57 and Sennheiser E609 are popular choices. Slightly less popular but also common/good choices would be the Audix i5 or Sennheiser MD241.
