This might be a redundent thread, but was just curious how many vocalist women have made it over the times. I have a vocalist in my band that sounds like a cross between Patsy Cline, Stevie Nicks, and Janis Joplin. I was just wondering your guy's input. This is the list I thought of, well country women do make it far, but what about the metal/classic rock/rock/prog rock/alternative rock kind of genre mainstream? Well as the main vocalist.

This is all I could come up with....

Stevie Nicks
Janis Joplin
Otep Shamaya - Otep
Morgan Lander - Kittie
Brett Anderson - The Donnas
Courtney love - *cough* hole
Cherrie Curry - The Runaways
Joan Jet
Amy Lee - Evanescence
Joan Osbourne
Karen Carpenter - The Carpenters
Belinda Carlisle - The Go-Go's
Lizzy Hale - HaleStorm
Lacey Sturm - Flyleaf

well this is just the list I came up with....didn't know how many women have made it and how common it was, I'm guessing with a voice, it can be acchiveable with one's sound.

Here's a reference....

A lot of gospel groups have great singers, like The Dixie Hummingbirds. Etta James and Marion Williams are great examples.

Nah, they were on the radio. I may have overestimated their vocal abilities, as I was comparing them to my old man singing along. Stupid out of tune Dutchy.

Bjork new music project is F*CKING AMAZING.

It's the only reason I would own an iPad. It's called Biophilia.

I've only heard the song Crystalline but that was great. I dont know about getting an iPad but its pretty novel and unique idea, and making most of modern technology for publicity always works out quite well.

Celine Dion.

I was watching the We Are The World 25 for Haiti video, and she just came in there for Cyndi Lauper's original part and kicked everyone's ass.
