I'm in a bit of a panic here. I'm a bit of an effect noob, so a little research might be needed...

Anyway, I let my friend borrow my MXR Blowtorch bass fuzz pedal, and he plugged it into an adapter and turned everything on. The pedal started to smoke out of the adapter input. It hasn't worked since.

Is this an easy fix? Any ideas on what happened? I really don't want to be mad at the guy, but I can't help but feel like my pedal is done for.

Help me.

How many volts was the adapter? How many volts does the pedal require?

Are you using the Dunlop ECB004 power adapter?

That could be a problem..

Yep, it needs 18 volts. Do you have two 9 volt batteries?

What did you use to power it before it fried?

I had been using nine volt batteries, and I let him borrow it. He plugged it into a nine volt adapter while the batteries were still inside like an idiot. :/

Yeah, he shouldn't have done that... I don't think it's very smart to use a power supply when there are batteries still in the unit.

Sounds like you fried it. Time to buy your friend a new pedal.

This is terrible advice. Even worse than the useless dry, sarcastic comment I made.

Is there any way to fix it? Or anything?

And it was MY pedal! Time for him to buy me a new one!
