Assuming some of you do, by what standards do you judge a woman to think it appropriate to call her ma'am?

Age?
Superiority in rank? (in case you know the woman personally)
Attire?
Etc.

On the other hand, to the women of the pit (all two of you), how do you feel abotu being called ma'am?

I call customers ma'am when i need to get their attention. What other options are available? Excuse me, woman?
#3
I address just about anyone older than me with sir, and miss. Not so much ma'am usually.

Saying it makes me feel like I sound like a cheeky asshole.

Miss? But I think women think you assume they're spinsters if you say that.

When referring to a teacher I use "miss", only if I'm pissed off at her, or she's a cow. And I'll say it sarcastically too.

I rarely say that and I don't think I've ever said "ma'am" seriously before

There really isn't a less formal way to address women whom you dont know their name. For reference, i call most men 'mate' if i don't know their name

I never really use ma'am...

Somewhat related, I don't like when people call me sir; it makes me feel old
#13
Usually no one.

If a woman gets on my ass about it, I just call her pretentious.

Any female who is superior to you in a situation. You know what I mean. A little girl can school you and you got no choice but to say "yes maam" lol

I think I default to miss unless I see she's wearing a wedding ring. I don't think I ever actually say ma'am, now that I think of it. I'll just imply I'm talking to her.

Female customers

Although I would rather call them "cunt" tell them to fuck off, if they're dumb bitches.

I usually just use "Miss." Most women don't like Ma'am for it makes them feel old. Even calling senior women miss tends to make their day.

I called someone a miss before, middle-aged woman, and she got offended. "Do I look like a miss to you?" It's either she assumed that I thought she was a spinster or she really was a man.

Personally, I don't know what I feel when someone calls me ma'am. It usually happens when I'm wearing a blazer. Otherwise, I'm always, "kid".

I use it when getting the attention of a woman older than me, like if I need directions and I see a stranger.

I would never call anyone that. It's silly.

Kids call me "miss" but if they called me ma'am I would cringe and tell them never to again.
