I have an all in one Vox combo unit and really do not like all the settings and options. I'm looking to get a new amp. I see a few 1/2 stack Marshall setups but some have mentioned to wait and get a Fender Twin. I'm pretty new to this so what should I be looking for? The Marshall ones I see on CL for around $350 but the Fender Twin amps are about $1000. I'd like to get something I can grow into/with and not have the urge to buy a different amp every year. I have a standard strat that I use....

Thanks.

I was hoping to find a craigslist steal for around $600 or so.

Classic rock is what I will be playing. No gigging, just torturing my wife while I play at home.

I guess you're talking about Marshall MG halfstacks. If so, STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

I dunno where West Chester is in PA but here are some good options from Philly. If your not gigging you really don't need tons of volume so here are some good low watt options.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg/2569177160.html You really don't need 50W but thats an outstanding deal.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg/2571239981.html Thats in West Chester! Great deal! Throw an Overdrive pedal in front of that andd you can get some good Classic Rock Tones. This is a really good deal man.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg/2569098175.html Another really good for for a very low price. You have some good deals if your anywhere near any of these.

I'm in Chadds Ford which is 5 miles from West Chester and 45min from Philly. The Fender Twin was only mentioned because that is the amp I remember from a recent conversation. I certainly don't want to spend $1000 on an amp.

Thanks for the links. I've got things to check out now.

What area in CL would you search if you were looking? I can find you some good things from that place too.

That $200 Blues Junior is a great deal if you can get that.

I'd search the Philadelphia area. Sometimes I will look in Reading and Lancaster area as well as the state of Delaware.

Blackstar makes some great stuff at great prices. Check around Craigslist or local shops, I'm sure you'll be able to find one of their models at a good price. Really can't go wrong with any of them, although the HT-1 and HT-5 might be a little low-wattage for anything other than bedroom use.

Thanks again. My Vox Valvetronix AD30VT just doesn't do it for me. Too many adjustments and none of them sound great to me.

Really any of those would be good options, just thats a very good deal and cheap and you could even snag a really nice OD pedal and still be way under budget. I would e-mail that guy ASAP.

With that kind of budget for a starter, I would recommend a Blackstar, especially good for Blues, classic rock, and a little bit of country I guess. I can't remember what model exactly but I believe it was called an H-4 or something? And it said it was mainly for clubs or some sh*t.

No matter what though.

STAY AWAY FROM LINE 6

Their amps are terrible and fake sounding.

Although their effects and some of the much higher end models are good, but the good ones are up in the 1000$ and up range.

I must disagree. The PodXT and up are great preamps for noodling around with.

I think your underestimating the power some of these amps.

I have a 15W amp and a 20W amp and I can't turn either one of them past 3 or 4 oclock without shaking the walls.
