I have never used them but everyone seems to be all super creamy about them. What makes them the greatest thing since canned beer?

they're not the greatest thing since canned beer, they're just picks

picks are picks

unless you're really picky about your pick because you pick with a pick

i wouldn't recommend buying a pick because once you get picky about the way you pick you realize you can stop being picky and start picking with your picking fingers

pick

pick pick

pick pick pick

I dont like them much, i like to hear the friction of the strings when alternate picking, but these make it smooth sounding. E.g. Batio when he does really fast alternate picked runs, you can hear the friction (dont know how else to describe it) but with v picks you wont hear that. I think it's to do with the round edges.

I made a pick out of a tic-tac box once, and i've also used a 1p, 2p, 5p, 20p and i think once a 50p. But that's not so strange as i heard Jimmy Page used to do that at one point.

EDIT: It was Brian May.

Don't know about Page, but I'm certain Brian May used pennies as picks.
I tried it too, but found it weird when it got attached to the pickup.

I once tried using my bus pass. It was shit.

EDIT: I've also picked with pennies/10p, but it's not really weird. I hated using them too.

Brian May uses six pence pieces for picks.

Chiggachiggachiggachiggachigga.

He has a strong attack, as do a lot of the faster pickers (like Paul Gilbert or Petrucci). Some guys prefer to go for a softer approach, though. Holdsworth for example is famed for his legato, but he's also a badass economy picker, but you can barely hear his attack.
