The intro is compound meter: 12/8. When the hard rock riff comes in, it's in straight-up 4/4.

EDIT: Oh, also, the outro reverts back to the 12/8 section.

I don't notice the 12/8 or 6/4. How exactly are you counting?

It's the "4/4 with a shuffle feel" thing. That's just a lazy way of writing 12/8. Listen for the triplet feel at the beginning of the song.
