So recently, my state passed/is in the process of passing (not sure which) a law, that a allows the state/school to monitor a students FaceBook and if anything deemed "inappropriate" the student will receive consequences at school. Do you think this should be passed or not? Why?

EDIT: It's not just FaceBook at school, it's FaceBook in general.

AT school, or just in general?

I don't agree with either, but if it's just your Facebook in general, that's absolutely retarded.

That is an incredibly infringement of the first amendment. This really goes to show how far most universities have their hands in the political cookie jar.

Facebook is stupid, but MORALLY, no, the school is not your parents. They have no right to monitor your personal life, or life at all, when you are off the school's property/premises, then enforce consequences based on that external information not relating to your time within their domain.

HOWEVER

Maybe, just maybe, if you're worried about this, then chances are you've got something stupid and questionable made public on your facebook page, and technically, legally, if it's set as public, that makes it public domain, and anyone is within their rights to view and act on it.
Do you feel warm within your cage?

And have you figured out yet -

TS, aren't you in middle school? What do they classify as "inappropriate?" And what are the punishments?

This just seems so stupid. Not to mention, kind of illegal.

Yeah, probably swearing or any sexual content, and I'm guessing detention or in-school-suspension.

why not make your facebook private?

not like you have to friend your school. they can't force you to friend them.

That can't be legal. In what world does the school system have omnipresent police jurisdiction...

No, it's not. These so-called "joke" options aren't even funny, most of the time.

Instead of monitoring their students, I think the schools should leave retarded comments everywhere.

Student: aww yee lost my virginity gimme a hi 5 mang
School: I high-fived your mom, when we didn't use a condom.

Everything you put online on facebook or other social media sites is put into the public realm. Maybe you should think twice about what you put out there and what image of yourself you project to be made available to everyone. There is serious potential that it will bite you in the ass one day, whether it be for employment or something else.

Yes it does. There are limits to what you can say and do at school, but there are also limits to what everyone can say and do.

Yeah, write to my fanclub about it, honey.
