Trees greet me like an old friend.
I leave my porch, I won't see it again.
I left open the front door,
the knob twisted worn
but it will forget me.

The sun's rays go sideways.
The neighbors wave, but I cut my losses;
why invest where I hold no stake?
I am betting everything on all those days
ahead of me, in wait;
a shore where I will set my feet
nothing more than a stray.

How far will I go,
a stowaway without a boat?
My shoes cut through concrete waves,
sails held taut by shoelace,
and the others won't even see me.
I'm just a body roaming streets;
bones under flesh under skin,
the same as everyone else is.

A stowaway without a boat,
a survivalist displaced,
headed home.
We're only strays.

(I like the opening but the 4th line seems forced imo)

(nothing bad about anything here)

(feels like a lack luster ending but i may be reading it wrong)

I don't really know what to say about this, which is indeed saying something. It's way out of my element yet I still feel a connection with it. You've accomplished something with this piece.
