Brad Delson aparently have an endless sutain for the intro to No More Sorrow, but on a close shot to his pickups , they seems like rail humbuckers, not sutainer. also, he isnt plucking the strings.... any idea of how hes doing it? EBow?

Usually sustain is done with massive amounts of volume and feedback. If you hit the note just right when standing in the right spot next to the amp you can make it go for as long as you can hold the note.

There are ways to cheat however, delay, reverb, ferandes sustainer.....

This is terrible advice. Even worse than the useless dry, sarcastic comment I made.

Sounds more like it's running though a wah pedal with wayyyyy to much gain. When you run a highly distorted signal though a wah, and leave the pedal set in a more bass/middy setting, it'll cut out alot of gain, but giving you lots of sustain.

That's how I'd go about getting that exact tone.

This. Its likely a combination of this and an ebow. There are several guitarists who implement this technique.

However, you can also get it through changing elements of the pickups like the edge from U2 does.

Being the biggest linkin park fan on this forum I can confirm there is an ebow used in the intro of no more sorrow. Can't see the vid but if it is the intro, he shouldn't be picking anything and holding a silver pencil sharpener looking thing.

I don't think so.

How can I persuade her?

^ exactly what he said, brad has to go back to normal picking for the choruses and outro and using an ebow would be impractical.

its not sustain its feedback.

Turn up the volume and gain on your amp then put the guitar in front of the speaker and it will ring like that for years

Hmm, now that I have seen teh video, it is a fernandes (with alot of feedback). To defend my title as "The greatest LP fan on UG" I have mentioned that I could not see the vid.

Anyway, yah. It is a sustainer and he's muting the other strings with his hand.

As for ^^^^^^ he's TTK, thats how he gets that kind of sustain. That and alot of feedback for around 20 secs.
