So i came up with a chord progression a thought sounded awesome that goes
Dm Cadd9 ? A
e|-1-----0-------0------0------------------------------------
B|-3-----3-------3------2-----------------------------------
G|-2-----0-------2------2------------------------------------
D|-0-----2-------3------2-----------------------------------
A|-0-----3-------1------0-----------------------------------
D|-0----------------------------------------------

so what's the third chord? my best guess is Bbmaj7add11, but i'm not sure.

and secondly, what could i use to solo over this?

Bb F A D E

Bbmaj7add11, like you said?

We'll wait for Sean or Alan to own this question, but Alan would probably tell you to use that sticked thread.

Not to ruin your day mate, but Mark Knopfler came up with this one 33 years ago...

But on topic: it's a Bbmaj7#11

-edit- just solo D minor all the way

Yes, that's correct. You can solo in D minor scale.

Yes, that's correct.

Euuhm, no it's not. A 7th chord never comes with add. You use add when there's NO 7th. And above all, it's not a 11, but #11.

yeah, but aren't virtually all chord progressions copying something? i mean there're only so many notes but yeah, so we're agreed that it's a major7 with some 11 added

just the natural minor? cuz thats what i use in almost all of my songs, think i could sneak in some harmonic minor or something else?
#10
Use harmonic minor over the A major chord or else the C in natural minor will clash with the C# in A major.
#13
No wait. Sorry, I accidently gave you the wrong answer. Bbmaj7#11 is indeed the correct answer.

Bb = 1
D = 3
F = 5
A = 7th
E = #11
