Sup Pit,

How Patriotic are you? How much do you love your country? Would you fight to protect it? Do you love the people that live in it; your neighbours, friends, family etc etc

Scale of 1-10 poll coming soon and put down what country you're in when you post.

I'm about an 8 or 9, I love my country. (New Zealand)

Not very. I don't love the people overall that live here. I love my friends and family.

I find patriotism based on where I'm born to be silly but I cannot deny I myself have at least a bit of patriotism in me. But it's hardly based on my heritage or any idea of Sweden being superior. It's most likely I'd fight for my ideology or my friends and what I believe in. And that would've been the same in any country.

I sincerely hope not I'd have to go to war for Sweden, I'd be a terrible soldier.

I'm from two different countries (who both happen to make fun of each other all the time), so I don't really know which side to take...

The fact that I hate them both should say something though.

i dunno. as an average citizen, i've always found it hard to feel any kind of true love for a country as big as America.

I first read the thread title as "How Pathetic Are You?"

My bad.... I dunno about my patriotism though, I suppose I'm mildly patriotic in terms of expressing concern for the welfare of my country and others. It's whatever though really... I'm leaning more towards apathy than anything else really.

I've always wondered why people thought that. I just don't see any reason why I shouldn't be proud of New Zealand.

Don't know which country you're talkin about, but that certainly applies to Australia.

I probably shouldn't start talking about refugees though, cos I won't stfu for an hour or so

I'm glad to be living in Belgium despite of all the bullshit and hypocrisy in our non-existing government, however I too feel that patriotism or nationalism is not the ideal way to think. I feel more like a member of Europe or even the entire world.

i agree, generally patriotism seems to equal "i love amurica, fuk them towelheads, amurica is the best country int eh planet, murica, murica..." et cetera.

feeling pride for a body of land just because you live on that body of land makes no sense to me whatsoever.

edit: just using stereotypical american patriots as an example here, europeans do the the same thing(more or less).

Vlaams Belang is almost history. Good riddance.

Long live Valonia.

If you like it that much, you could ask your government to pay up €2500 per capita each year to support them while they spit on you.

Do not have an opinion about things you know nothing about.

I'm not even Belgian. A friend of mine is, and he's from Valonia.

And he he says such things. I have no idea about Belgium really. I just liked Leopold's expeditions in Kongo.

I feel pride for New Zealanders over the actual body of land itself though. I love New Zealanders, and the actual bodies of land that New Zealand is made up of looks sexy as hell. I guess I'm proud of the people and government not the land, so for lack of a better word I use Patriotism.

I'm aware of that. You eat krackebröd for breakfast.

Nothing against those people. It's their politicians that suck and is holding Flanders back to be one of the top regions of Europe together with the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, ...

I don't know if I can pledge allegiance to a flag of the United States. It's kind of fucked up to have to pledge to a flag... it's inanimate - it's idol worship all over again. But I do pledge allegiance to the land of the United States because it is a living, growing thing, and oh does it grow. Other than that, I like being here. We've lost our way over the last decade, but we'll make it back. We always do... bitches.

Wow I can't believe how many of you don't know what patriotism is. It is not taking pride in the accomplishments of your country. It is devotion to your country. If you campaign for something you believe in because you think it will better your country, then you are a patriot, you angsty fucking teenagers.

Speak of the devil.

whoa.. I just realized that in order to advance as a whole in society with the ideas of being utopian and perfect, that we cannot embrace patriotism because that directly creates favoritism and a mass of other things, in turn causing countries to turn on each other with people thinking that they're better than others when in reality, they're really not.

But wasn't the case the other way around? Some decades ago Flanders sucked and Valonia prospered. Should they have left you then?

Son, are you high?

...cuz I am too lol.

If that's your first realization, congrats. This is the 21st century. The nations/countries model doesn't work anymore. We've gotta grow up and face real integration and collaboration, or we're gonna chase our egotistic attitudes right down the bunny hole and fuck ourselves into collapse. That being said... Jah bless... America that is.

yes it is. by the way not being patriotic doesnt mean that you dont care about the country, i live in spain and ive been camping since day 1 with 15-m and been to all the local assemblies(i think this is the correct term) i just found idiotic the idea that you should take any proud for being born in a certain country

So you propose that we all share resources or something? Then would every landmass on the world report to one global leader and be under one set of global laws? I don't think that's what you're planning because that sounds like it wouldn't work very well.

Please elaborate on your plan
