I hammer onto string before I pick them giving notes double effects
.Or in some places I hit the open string. It's really percussive sounding.

Is this called anything?

Nothing special i think, if it is what you described (since the video aint to much use) it sounds like a hammer on from nowhere and then a pickstroke.

I know what your talking about I do it all the time. Its like you sneak a pick in just before you hammer. Hendrixs used this technique a bit.
