Article from CheatCC

So there's this inevitable change in magnetic polarity within the next who the heck knows, crippling all electrical systems because positive and negative polarities with batteries will be reversed... Or something. I just drank a fifth of crown and my brain asploded. So when positive becomes negative, we implode?

So this is apparently going to be a major worldly catastrophe, and all they care about if making sure the game controllers are alright?

It sounded interesting and figured it might be worth a share, but battery life on electronics does suck nowadays.

If they're talking about the Earth changing polarity likes its done all this time. They need to get over it.

That's not gonna happen ANY time soon.

Also that article looks like a rehash of a partially incorrect article from a year or two ago.

It happens something like once every 150,000 years. I think it's safe not to give a fuck.

They DO happen regularly (in a Geological time scale context, in ours, not really...).

It might happen sometime soon, but who knows? Geologists are still debating what causes pole reversals.

Would it really be as cataclysmic as the doom sayers are saying?

It happens on a regular basis.

They can tell by looking at the ocean floor and seeing alternating patterns of polarity in the metals found in the crust. Judging by how long it's been since the last one and how wide each band of polarized crust is, scientists are guessing that the next polar reversal is pretty close (at least on a geological time scale).

I mean, it would probably screw with all of our communications devices or something.

And Roviet Sussia will be your enemy?

EDIT: So negative will be positive and vica versa? Good ol' nonsensicle stuff to me really...

I think so.

I'm not sure if there is an electrical device that works on the direction of the magnetic field, maybe during the pole reversal itself some funny things will happen (because there seems to be a transitional period from looking at the chron), but after it's stable everything should go back to normal.

if that asteroid doesnt hit us, if the aliens dont come back, if there isnt a major earthquake, if a supervolcano doesnt erupt, and/or if a nuclear war doesnt happen, then itll be a problem. just another reason for armageddon.
#24
My understanding was that a stronger magnetic field would occur because of solar wind blah blah blah while ours settles and any damage would likely be in space or at the poles. Both are outside 'Mericuh, though, so who the **** cares?

What if this happens and everything becomes like a bizzarro world. Like people talking backwords and everyone being the opposite and everything. That'd be crazy.

Yeah, it'd be all crazy and stuff. And like robbers would be heros and stuff. Or maybe after the poles reverse the world rewinds and we all start going backwards and die and move toward birth and shit.

In many ways this could be terrific. Think about it.

Bank systems get totally wiped, everyone goes back to square one except central banks with actual reserves. World debts disappear.

It'll be anarchy.

It'll be glorious.

And Marshall law gets implemented and shit really goes to hell. I see it as more of a worldwide EMP, and I'm sure banks will be smart enough to keep copies of finances on something non electrical.

Yeah, it'd be all crazy and stuff. And like robbers would be heros and stuff. Or maybe after the poles reverse the world rewinds and we all start going backwards and die and move toward birth and shit.

Depends. Would be able to survive for up to 6 months without electricity while we wait for the grid to be re-built, and all the fried fuses to be replaced?

oh yea, an article about shifting polarity from a game website is so correct :| an immediate shift of the earth's magnetic pole is goddamn impossible.

Can you post a link from more sources, it seems kinda odd that a gaming site is the only one covering something on that scale.

seen as the last one was over 700k years ago and the intervals between them were calculated at around 400k, i think it's safe to say we're okay with not giving a shit.

The guy at guitar centre told me this, so I bought the dean v acoustic that he was showing me. It looks electric, but won't be affected.
Quote by Gabel
You are EXTREMELY WRONG! I have played it. I own an 18W and it would be an awful stereo amp, it's way too bright, breaks up too easily and so on. Secondly, why would a guitar store sell an hifi amp.
